What is a proto-show you ask? It is an opportunity to explore the germ of artistic thought in the Studio Studio exhibition space. Have a single work, or a small body of work for an upcoming exhibition? Want to collaborate with a new artistic buddy? Got some ideas you're not sure are good weird or bad weird? Have an idea that is off-brand but you still want to make it happen? Sounds like a proto-show. Proto-shows are a place to test and document something you have been working on in the safety of the studio gallery space and your community

Proto shows will be offered up to artists and collaborators at $0!

However come with the expectation that at least 1 work will be exhibited, 1 opening event will be held and the installation and deinstallation is the responsibility of the artist. We will make the space ready for you, and circulate your invitations to our community if you like.

  • The exhibition space is a roughly 30 Sq space with 2 permanent walls that are 6.6 (5.4 m to a column) and 4.8 M long by 3.6 m high. There is a movable Gallery wall (3.8 x 2.6 x 0.9m) that can be configured in several ways. At the front of the Gallery is a Full Heigh Roller door which can be open for the exhibition, or closed, or closed with the Gallery wall capping it off.

    There are 3 Pedestals (50 x 50 x 1020mm, and 2x 500 x 500x 780mm) available to borrow.

    
There is Lighting Track with 6 downlight, 2 central LED lights, power accessible from the Lighting Rig above and underneath Mezzanine Balcony, and 2 x 2 outlet GPOs in the South East and North West Corners of the space.

  • You will have access to the Gallery Space from 6pm on the Thursday Prior your show to the following Sunday at 6pm. We will configure position the wall for you in advance or upon arrival. Installation equipment such as Levels, Ladders, Drill/Driver, Patching and Painting consumables will be available for you to use.

    The walls must be patched and painted, with the space essentially returned to its prior state and empty by 6PM on Sunday.

  • There is a permanent AV system for music, and a workbench can be set up for a bar/reception. We also have a portable Gas powered BBQ.

    This is very much your event. We encourage you will invite you community, and are happy to pass on your invitation to our network if you’d like to open it up. Please provide details of event listing etc to us 2 weeks prior to your show. If your event goes beyond the typical opening reception (a Short demonstration, live performance, or service of food) please give us 2 weeks notice. We suggest holding an Evening Time event on the Friday of you exhibition or a Daytime event on the weekend if you prefer.

  • We suggest using appointments or small events to encourage people to the space, but you are also welcome to ‘sit’ the gallery during the weekend and we can give you independent access during the day via our lockbox if no studio members are present.

  • The Gallery space is free for you for this exhibition, and ideally $0 will change hands. however we will charge a wall repair fee if walls are left painted or badly damaged ($300) or just damaged by screws holes ($100). In simple cases we will do this on an honour system. If your exhibition requires significant modification of the space we may request a refundable deposit.

    There is no prerogative to sell your work, so feel free to mark NFS and sell your work on the sly. But we can process your sale and complete your delivery for a %30 commission plus fulfilment costs charged to buyer if appropriate.
